Vietnam war depicted through art.

Vietnam and Art

The Vietnam War had a significant impact on postmodern art by influencing artists to create works that reflected the social and political turmoil of the time. Artists responded to the war by creating pieces that challenged traditional artistic conventions and sought to engage with issues of power, violence and cultural identity. Dan Nance captures great pain in the following two pictures  first being "brothers in arms". Depicting the great and suffering in Vietnam. The pain his fellow soldier has is shown especially in the pixeling of the face to show burning. Watching the helicopters, hoping for rescue. In the second painting " Death followed us home" it shows the past and present of the war. It shows the memories being carried forward and how those that survived are still suffering. Ronald Haeberle was a Vietnam combat photographer for the US Army. He captures how women and kids are being captured in Vietnam so that they can be executed. The fear in the mothers eyes and children causes shame to some of the reasons we went to Vietnam. The second picture also shows the babies executed during the Vietnam war as the US took advantage of some villages.

Ed Bowen  was also a US army veteran that served during Vietnam. In the first painting he captures night operation which he remembered during his time in Vietnam. The Vietnamese are depicted as savages fighting the war at night trying to take advantage of the Americans as the Vietnamese are more knowledgeable of the land. Paintings number 2 depicts night operations as they watch the farm workers and are looking for members of the Vietcong.
