The Baroque Era

Image
The Baroque Era and Caravaggio The Baroque era was one filled with drama and emotion. The artist really wanted to get that wow factor, they wanted to evoke strong emotions from the viewers often through intense contrasts of light and shadow. What this art really served as was a tool for the Catholic church and various monarchies to communicate power, grandeur and spiritual themes. Michelangelo Merisi Da Caravaggio or just Caravaggio was a major player in this era. Born 29 September 1571, his paintings have been characterized by art critics as combining a realistic observation of the human state, both physical and emotional, with a dramatic use of lighting, which had a formative influence on baroque art. This can be seen in his painting " David with the head of Goliath"  This painting is dated as early as 1605 and as late as 1609-1610. This painting is currently housed at the Borghese Gallery and museum in Rome, Italy. The original size is approximately 49 in x 40 in and it i

The Greatest Era: The Renaissance

The Renaissance Religion played a significant role in the Italian Renaissance. While the Renaissance is very often associated with classical art, literature and humanism, it also saw a strong influence of religion, especially Christianity. Many of the great artists of that time created religious artworks commissioned by the Catholic Church or its wealthy patrons. Whether it's your first kiss that you hold close to your heart or a kiss from your partner of 20 plus years, the kiss is an action filled usually with many emotions. The Peruvian artist Victor Delfin created the sculpture to depict him and his wife kissing. The sculpture is set in a park in Miraflores, Peru named "Parque del Amor (Love Park)". It sits in the middle of the park as you overlook the Pacific Ocean, measuring approximately 26 feet wide by 23 feet in height. The sculpture was presented to the city  on February 14, 1993.  As you can see the color the artist used was a bronze to really stand out against the blue ocean. It takes up a large space and has prespective giving visitors a great view. The sculpture seems to have texture and you can see the passion in the kis
