South Korean Art extending past Korea

Image
As I go through Netflix and even my phone its hard to not see that Asia as a whole is really pushing to be world leaders. Things like Tik Tok, TEMU, and K-pop have taken over not only the United States but some would say the world. I decided to concentrate on not just Asia but South Korean artists.   South Korean artists have influenced Western art through their unique perspectives, techniques and cultural influences. Artists like Jaemin Lee, June Lee and Seongyeon Jo have gained international recognition, impacting contemporary art movements and sparking cross-cultural dialogues. Their works have challenged traditional Western art norms and expanded the global art disclosure.  Jaemin Lee created Tropical Mood, it is an oil canvas, 48 in x 23 in. The painting was created in 2021. The women seems to be enjoying herself either poolside or just a lounge chair. Her arms seem very long and the red swimsuit seems to make her body look longer as her head is slumped below her shoulders.  June

Vietnam war depicted through art.

Vietnam and Art   The Vietnam War had a significant impact on postmodern art by influencing artists to create works that reflected the social and political turmoil of the time. Artists responded to the war by creating pieces that challenged traditional artistic conventions and sought to engage with issues of power, violence and cultural identity. The war also led to the emergence of new artistic movements and styles that reflected the changing attitudes of the era.  Dan Nance captures great pain in the following two pictures  first being "brothers in arms". Depicting the great and suffering in Vietnam. The pain his fellow soldier has is shown especially in the pixeling of the face to show burning. Watching the helicopters, hoping for rescue. In the second painting " Death followed us home" it shows the past and present of the war. It shows the memories being carried forward and how those that survived are still suffering. World War I and Modern Art

How World War I encouraged Modern Art  Modern art was greatly influenced by World War I. Before the war, artists were already experimenting with new styles and techniques, but the war served as a catalyst for even more radical artistic movements. The devastation and chaos of the war led to artists expressing a sense of disillusionment, which can be seen in movements like dadaism and surrealism. These movements challenged traditional artistic norms and sought to reflect the chaos and uncertainty of the post-war world. Overall, World War I had a significant impact on the direction and themes of modern art.  Artists such as Christopher R.W. Nevinson from London really shows the chaos after war with his painting " The Tunnelers" originally painted in 1914 in graphite and crayon the 10 in x 8 in  art is a powerful representation of the harsh realities of war. Some of the key art elements in this painting include its dynamic composition, with diagonal lines creating a sense of mo

Preferences and Perspectives - The Romantic Era

The Romantic Era: Preferences and Perspective Realism vs Art Nouveau The Romantic era depicted many different styles, realism is one of my favorite styles.  Realism emerged as a reaction to the Romantic movement, focusing on depicting the world as it is, without idealization or romanticism. Realism rejected the fantastical and exaggerated elements often seen in romantic art and literature, aiming to portray ordinary life and people realistically. While realism was a separate movement from romanticism, it was influenced by the romantic emphasis on emotion and individual experiences, leading to a more nuanced and complex portrayal of human life and society. On the other hand, Art Nouveau is my least favorite. It was considered more of a decorative art movement that embraced organic forms inspired by nature. It aimed to breakaway from historical styles and create a new modern aesthetic. This style was more focused on design, decoration, and craftsmanship rather than the emotional expres

Classical Era and the Art of the American Revolution  During the 1700's, this period is known as the age of Enlightenment, various art movements emerged but it was a very important time for the United Colonies of North America or later known as the United States of America as it fought for its independence. Many artists captured many great moments but non-greater then The Battle of Bunker's Hill painted by John Trumbull. I chose this painting because it is one of the earliest and most renowned historical paintings in American art.  The painting by Trumbull captures a pivotal moment in the American Revolutionary War, which showcased General Joseph Warren's death during the battle of Bunker Hill.  This painting not only commemorates a significant event in American history but also reflects the growing interest in historical and patriotic themes in American art. John Trumbull was in the colonial army camp at Roxbury, Massachusetts on 17 June, 1775. He watched the battle unfold
